How To Get Pro Tools Certified

How To Get Pro Tools Certified

The short answer is to go to a Certified school or online trainer pass 5 test, and you will be a Pro Tools Certified Operator in Music and Post Production techniques. The long answer is truly learning Pro Tools inside and out. Spend as much time as possible learning everything you can about Pro Tools from production work flows to key commands. I spent the better part of a year in school working through all the courses below. I was one of just a few students that got all the way through the certification.

What Does It Mean To Be Pro Tools Certified And Is It Worth It?

In my experience in and out side of studios the certification does not mean a lot. It is not going to you a studio job it is not going to even guarantee that you become an intern at a studio. However,if you apply yourself it will help you improve and become a faster operator which is huge. There have been two other things that in my experience that there certification could help you with.

The first is potential clients. By saying you have a certification in Pro Tools I have notices more clients will take you serious. The other aspect of this is a good beauty/demo real. If you can produce truly great music it will sell it self to your potential clients. The second is in corporate America having a certification is good and will help open a few days. So at the end of the day the certification is not NEEDED to succeed but it can help. Also keep in mind that these courses are not cheap and neither are the books.

How I Got Certified And How You Can To

Luckily for me it was part of the schooling I went through. I spent the better part of a year going through Pro Tools 101.110.201.210M and 210P. Most audio production schools should have something similar. I went through the course and at the end you had to pass a test that Avid put together.

If my memory serves me well there were 60 questions and you had 60 minutes to complete the test. You had to get 90% or better in order to pass the test and move alone to the next course. I used Quizlet to create flash cards that I created as I read through the course specific books and reviewed daily. I almost became obsessed with Pro Tools for a period of time at one point I knew over 100 key commands by heart. If you want to check them out I still have a Quizlet flashcard set here
